On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m. EST, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Haiti, 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince. As the full effects of this tragedy have unfolded over the past few days, agencies and organizations around the world are rallying to aid the people of Haiti. In the United States, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) bears the responsibility of providing humanitarian assistance when and international emergency or disaster strikes. While the world watches and waits, help is on the way.
